Faculty management strengthens links with LINXS

In March this year, LINXS received a new organisational placement within the Faculty of Science. Rather than being part of the Department of Chemistry, LINXS is now established as a separate unit reporting directly to the Dean. The decision follows a strategic review and an external evaluation of the organisation conducted last year, both of which yielded very positive results.

Established in 2017, LINXS aims to strengthen neutron and X-ray research and build international networks to maximise the benefits of large-scale research facilities such as MAX IV and ESS. As an interdisciplinary institute, LINXS operates across multiple research fields, and the new organisational structure is intended to create stronger conditions for collaboration and long-term development.

– LINXS is a key initiative for both the Faculty and the University. By placing it closer to faculty management, we can better support its continued development. This change reflects our commitment to advancing research in neutron and X-ray-based methods and to maximising the scientific impact of ESS and MAX IV, says Per Persson, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

Trevor Forsyth, Director of LINXS and Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, also welcomes the change:

– This is a development we’ve been working toward for a long time, and we’re very pleased with the decision. The new structure strengthens our role as a central player in neutron and X-ray research. I look forward to working even more closely with faculty leadership to create the best possible conditions for researchers to take full advantage of what LINXS and our partners have to offer.

New premises in Science Village

Alongside the organisational shift, LINXS has also relocated to new premises in The Loop, at the heart of Science Village. With more space, modern facilities, and close proximity to both MAX IV and ESS, LINXS is now even better equipped to support researchers and users in accessing and leveraging advanced research infrastructure.

In June, LINXS is also organising a major international conference, bringing together users and scientists – including a local Nobel Laureate. The aim of the event is to showcase the latest research in X-ray and neutron techniques, as well as the LINXS platform for engaging early-career researchers. The conference will also explore the role of large-scale infrastructures in research and identify both current and future needs among different user groups.

About LINXS
LINXS Institute of advanced Neutron and X-ray Science is an advanced studies institute whose mission is to promote science and education focusing on the use of neutrons and X-rays. LINXS aims to maximize the scientific utilization of large research facilities such as MAX IV and ESS as well as other similar international infrastructures that Sweden uses.

LINXS' work is based around themes which gather national and international researchers who are interested in advancing neutron and X-ray science, methods or complementary techniques.
